  • Chick Flick

    chick-flick

Hmmm I was considering whether I should write this blog or not. Risk losing my reputation as all serious man-dude... dude.... Then after just few seconds of consideration... ah what the hey. Haha!  I can be serious some other time..

Was suppose to catch up on work later tonite. That WAS the plan. Well... like all most things in life, the "plan" changes... I was resting at home after a long day's work so I thought I'd watch one hour of TV before proceeding to look into my stacks of documents, to prepare for the meeting tomorrow and not to mention to dig through the mounds of paper. I said to myself... one hour.. ONE hour.. then its up to work... After a comfortable half an hour into the show, the tug between the show I was watching and mind you, it was getting fairly interesting, on one side and the all too familiar documents of my waking hours on the other side... my body just didn't move an inch, so to speak. It was quite obvious which side won.

So here I was watching this "chick flick", 27 dresses.... yes. I can see my ratings dipped quite a few bounds on the men's scale. Was watching it alone too.. And enjoying it. Think by now, my ratings just went flat. Hahaha! It was entertaining.. there was emotional drama, there was a story, happy ending. I came upstairs entertained.

And the contributing effect was of course I watched the movie right after a short call to my sweet gal and a promise of a date in the weekend. Something to look forward to.

So what is it about the movie? Would I be stereotyping and calling it a chick flick? Well lets just stick to the norm of society's categorization to add to the fun of writing. Though as a disclaimer, I'm not so much as one that would stick to the norm so I don't agree with all things that are widely accepted by society. Anyway back to my writing...

General ponderings....So what is it about chick flicks? Maybe because we can relate to the emotions in our hearts? And we could say, "Hey I know what you feel." deep down inside? Perhaps like what I was pondering about the last few days about our struggles and maybe now it more of our emotions... acknowledging one's struggles... or rather acknowledging one's emotions is the first step we have to take to look into our own heart's struggle.

Hmm... how did that thought came... from a chick-flick to matters of the heart.

What do you think? Leave a comment.

You watched 27 Dresses!! *thumbs up* Haha! I love the movie and it spoke to me deeply about life and love. I must admit I even cried in certain parts... yea I'm emo when it comes to movies like this. :p

Chick flicks... I think it's the fact that it can be so emotionally vulnerable and transparent  .... don't we all crave for connection? The movies somehow tap into those desires .. and the fact that it always end on a good note, it does speak about our hope that all will be alright at the end of our messy existence.

Good point.... to establish an emotionally vulnerable and transparent connection. Something we can relate to.. Shed some new light into the woman psyche.

I saw some definition of "chick flick" on the net the other day looking for picture. From the online slang dictionary:

"a movie primarily of interest to females, often due to content love, friendship, emotional scenes) or cast (primarily females). Examples include Steel Magnolias, The Truth about Cats and Dogs, etc. The term is used frequently by males when talking about such films."

It does however gives us some indication of the connection that we really crave for deep inside of us. Thats why our connection with God is crucial.... also explains why grown up men.. and that includes really macho man-type figure cry in the presence of God.
